A look back...

My time in Afghanistan has certainly been a valuable personal experience. I feel like I arrived a diplomat, but left a friend. While the overall objective of bringing athletes back with me hasn't panned out, this trip has been productive. Before arriving I really wasn't sure what to expect and in many ways was pleasantly surprised. While Kabul still has security issues, I at no point felt unsafe, its people were genuinely happy to see me, and I was impressed by the Afghan's determination for progress. I'd like to thank my host, Engr. Abdul Tawab Ahmadi, the Chairman of the Afghan Swim Federation, who's commitment, generosity, and efforts couldn't be more appreciated. We of course share great disappointment with the denial of the athlete's visas preventing this trip to the United States, but are hopeful for future efforts and are developing plans for the future.
We knew this process was not going to be easy, as pioneering efforts and progress never is, but it will only be with a collective and enduring support that our shared goals will be achieved. I for one am proud to be associated with these efforts.
